NP - Olympic

On a trip to visit Mom and Dad in 1996, Greg and I took a trip up the Olympic Peninsula stopping to camp in the National Park on our way.  Unfortunately, after getting the tent and camping space set up, the rain came in so heavily that we packed everything away and decided to spend the night in a motel in Port Town Townsend.
But we did stop several times along the way to enjoy the beauty of the land.  Greg was into black and white photography at the time so that's what many of the pictures were.   At a later time we drove through some of the western part of the Park, but I'm not sure which pictures were the National Park and which other areas.  We stayed in Forks on that trip and drove around sightseeing on our way home from Vancouver Island.

CSHP - Colonel Allensworth

Located 30 miles north of Bakersfield, the Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park tells the story of a group of people who set out the create their own "American Dream."  They  filed a town plan in 1908 after years of planning.  Although initially a success the death of Colonel Allensworth in 1914, the cost of water and the failure of a vocational school slowed the settlers dream.  But the town did persist and became known as "the town that refused to die."

I don't remember exactly why I stopped here back in 2018.  I think a quilt store tour had taken me far afield.  I'm not sure I would go way out of my way to get there, but the restored buildings were interesting and the thought of setting up that ideal town out here in basically desert area is fascinating.

CSB - Half Moon Bay

Although we visited beaches in Half Moon Bay many times over the years, we would go to the free beaches.  First day of our Bay to Bridge Hike in 2014 was the first time I had actually walked through the Half Moon Bay Campgrounds.  We ate lunch  at Sweetwood Group Camp  which was a little further north than the main campground.

NVM - Mount St. Helens

On May 18, 1980 we all watched with fascination and a bit of horror as Mount Saint Helens erupted with fury.  It's not that there was no warning, but that didn't stop the destruction or the deaths of those that refused to believe.

Today the site is both a Washington State park and a National Volcanic Monument
