SP - Mount Diablo

On a recent trip to Sacramento I decided to drive up Mount Diablo. The views were spectacular.  At the top a wedding was going on so I missed out on taking pictures looking east.

NM - Fort Ord

Fort Ord National Monument located on the grounds of the Army facility (1917-1994) contains 14,658 acres of public land and over 86 miles of trails some of the land is still under the auspices of the Army as they clean up the site to make it safe for the public, but over half of the acreage is already in the hands of BLM.

A visit in mid-may with Sean showed the Monument at its best.  There were flowers everywhere and the vernal pools were beautifully full.

NHP - Rosie the Riveter

Located in Richmond CA, the Rosie the Riveter National Historic Park is a memorial to the many woman that went to work supporting the country during WWII.  I finally got there in August 2022 on an outing with Maura and William.  After coming home I realized I didn't take many pictures though!!  But it was well worth the trip.  A great tribute to the women and interesting look at the shipyards of the times.

Tropical Dreams

Some colorful tropical panels inspired this quilt to which I added a pinwheel strip and a crazy quilt piece that I've had sitting around for a couple years.  I also added the tree silhouettes which were hand painted by Leslie Keats and some tessellated fish.   The backing includes whale material designed by Leslie as well.

NHL - Coso Rock Art District

The Coso Rock Art District, a
National Historic Landmark deep in the U.S. Navy's testing station at China Lake, contains one of America's most impressive petroglyphic and archeological complexes. The 20,000 images already documented surpass in number most other collections, and the archeological resources are remarkably undisturbed.

The pictures here were taken by my Dad during our years in China Lake, long before the area became a National Landmark.  I feel certain I saw some of these areas, but we left China Lake when I was six and I can't be sure.  I do remember day trips in caravans of Model As that probably were in search of the art works.

CSHP William B Ide

This was a stop on the way to Portland.....but then I lost the pictures so I stopped a second time.  It's a pretty area right along the river with some historic buildings a adjacent hiking paths...well worth going a few miles out of the way.

CSP - Richardson Grove

Located at the southern end of Humboldt County, Richardson Grove State Park is the home of 300 foot Redwoods.  Established in 1922, it is one of the oldest Redwood Parks in the system and in my view one of the prettiest that I've visited.  Be sure to take a walk on the nature trail if you visit.
