LH - Point Montara

A Stop along our Bay To Bridge Hike in 2014, this light station, originally established in 1875 is not open to the public.  It is currently a youth hostel.  The tower itself was built in 1881 in Massachusetts as the Mayo Beach lighthouse.  It was moved and rebuilt on this site in 1928.

St. Nicholas for Nicholas

One last Christmas quilt.  The Center is  a cross stitch picture of a Woodland St. Nick that I did in 1990 and first framed and then had in a simple lap quilt.  The corners copy the animals in the center and the rest is trees of every green hue.

 It seemed fitting that St. Nicholas go to Nicholas, the last grandchild without a special Christmas Quilt!

SMCP - Junipero Serra County Park

Another great day in a county park I hadn't visited before, thanks to the San Mateo County Parks Foundation.  Director, Michelle Beasley provided a great history lesson and good food.

Nature provided a surprise by dropping a tree across the planned hiking path, but the views were lovely anyway!!!






Junipero Serra County Park was established in 1956 on 108 acres that had been part of the Buri Buri Rancho. Although it is one of the smaller county parks, it is still possible to cobble together a couple mile hike.  It is easily accessible from Crystal Springs Road, just a short distance from Interstate 280,

Trees

At a quilt show in the foothills, we saw a red quilt with a panel similar to this.  I fell in love with the concept, and later found some great paper pieced trees that I thought would work well.  The border added the finishing touch with a three tree panel on each side.

This is Andi's quilt, big enough for her king size bed!

CSP - Patrick's Point

Patrick's Point lies south of Crescent City.  In the 1800s the area (north to Wilson Creek and South to Little River) was home of the Yurok people.  There were 56 villages varying in size from two to twenty four houses. While the original villages are gone, in 1990 an all Yurok crew built a replica village named Sumȇg which is located near the park headquarters.

There is a nice short easy little hike from the headquarters up through a native plant garden.  Or you can take a longer drive through the park and end up at the village.  Either way it is well worth a stop on your way down the coast.
