Oh Christmas Tree and the Snowman
I like to work on Christmas projects during December, so this quilt was mainly done in 2023. It is now hung on my chair to keep me warm this Christmas season and Christmas Pinwheels has moved to the guest chair.
The snowman pillow is a perfect addition for cuddling up with a good book or watching a sappy Christmas movie.

Leftovers from quilt backs and Christmas Pajamas. This has been my go to chair companion for many Decembers.

Mission Santa Inés
Santa Ines (Saint Agnes) was named for a young girl who chose not to marry and instead choose to devote herself to Christ. The legend says that she was forced into prostitution and subsequently beheaded for her religious beliefs in 304.
Construction of the mission began in 1804 and building continued adding the sides to the quadrangle. By 1812 there were 718 Chumash residents as well as the friars and soldiers. The mission church was rebuilt in 1871 and restored in 2021. The picture here shows part of an original arch.
The history on the Old Mission website talks about the difficulties as the Mexican War for independence from Spain was fought. Supplies and pay for the soldiers was no longer received and the Missions themselves were forced to provide support receiving on vouchers in return. A Chumash rebellion in 1824 was over within a week at Santa Ines, more because the people loved and respected the Friars than because the soldiers won.

SP - Gaviota
It's a little off the beaten path, but I fell in love with this beach. The bridge and the pier of pelicans and cormorants were unique!!

SB - Doheny State Beach
Located at Dana Point, Doheny State Beach, was the first State Beach in the California State Park System. It is a day use surf beach, with a huge lawn and picnic area and is home to a volleyball club. There are nets available for public use here, as well as on many other Southern California beaches.

La Purísima Mission SHP
CALIFORNIA REGISTRER HISTORICAL LANDMARK #340 #70000147
More Pictures
Founded in 1787, the La Purísima Mission land holdings once covered nearly 300,000 acres. Bordered by the Santa Maria River in the North and the Gaviota coastline in the South, the land was home to the Chumash people and Spanish settlers. The mission was best known for its hides and blankets, and at its peak two-thousand inhabitants herded as many as 24,000 cattle and sheep.
In the 20th century, under direction of the National Park Service, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) pledged to restore the mission if enough land could be provided to convert it into a historic landmark. The Catholic Church and the Union Oil Company donated sufficient land for the CCC to proceed with the restoration. The nine buildings as well as many small structures and the original water system were fully restored with the mission's dedication occurring on December 7, 1941, the same day the United States entered World War II.
