LH - Ogden Point Breakwater

Located in Victoria within walking distance of where we stayed, the Ogden Point Breakwater is a popular walk of 2500 feet along the rubble mound breakwater that is capped with concrete blocks and a concrete superstructure.  The lighthouse at the end was completed in 1916.

In 2009 the Unity Mural was painted on both sides of the breakwater.  It is the largest mural in Canada

Mission - San José

CALIFORNIA REGISTRER HISTORICAL LANDMARK #334

Mission San José was founded on June 11, 1797 by Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen on a site which was part of a natural highway by way of the Livermore Valley to the San Joaquin Valley.

It was the fourteenth of the 21 Spanish Missions that were established in Alta California.

The current church which was rebuilt in 1985 and is an authentic replica of the original, that had been destroyed by 1868.

This statue of San Antonio de Padua was salvaged from the rubble after the church was destroyed in an  1868 earthquake, reportedly by a child.  It was returned to the mission during the 1985 restoration.

Every mission that I have visited has unique displays and Mission San Jose is no exception.  One room was filled with maps and information about the Ohlone in the area.

In addition to artifacts from the mission,  there is  large collection of paintings and models of the mission.  You will find documents having to do with the property.  There are also a number of maps of the mission system.

Walking through a graveyard, filled mainly with Hispanic names, I happened on one that couldn't help but catch my attention.

NM - Statue of Liberty

In 2000 we took a trip to New York at Christmas time.  One of our days was spent traveling to and climbing the statue of liberty.

This year's Christmas project not only provides "wrapping" for family presents.  It also became this year's Christmas card.

CSRA - Candlestick Point State Recreation Area

This visit to Candlestick Point was actually the suggestion of a visiting brother who remembered one trip to Candlestick Park as a kid.  We were looking for a place to just catch up for a while, and it proved the perfect place a nice walk and then a pleasant place to sit along the water.

Along the way we saw off road vehicles, fisherman, and picnickers all enjoying the day.

NM Little Bighorn Battlefield

Another stop on the Lewis and Clark Trail trip was the Little Bighorn Battlefield Monument.  Standing in the middle of nowhere the monument is an exquisite remembrance of the event and the many that lost their lives there.

CSP - Fort Ord Dunes / Marina State Beach

Drive along Reservation Road, past the Monterey State University Campus and you arrive at Marina State Beach  and the Marina Nature Preserve.

Marina State Beach

Head south along the beach  and you arrive at Ford Ord Dunes State Park, one of the newest in the system developed on what was once a US Army base in operation from 1917 to 1974.

Lastly look out to sea, for there is the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.  I put three checkmarks on my to visit list with one stop with my brother on a recent sunny November day.
