Lighthouse In Pink

Alexis tried to claim an earlier quilt with a lighthouse, but was too late.  This one took a long time to finish, but it is finally in her quilt stash.  The silk-screened trees are by Leslie Keats.

CSB - Lighthouse Field

January 2020  Also known as Point Santa Cruz, this area forms the northern boundary of Monterey Bay. It is one of the last open headlands in any California urban area. Surfers, tourists, birds - including the rare Black Swift and wintering Monarch butterflies are drawn to this area. Sea lions populate the offshore rocks.

CSB - Bean Hollow

The best tidepools around.  It was an often visited spot when the girls were young.  And visited at least once with Madi.

CSHP - Monterey

The Presidio of Monterey was established in 1770 by Father Junipero Serra. Monterey was established as the capital of California in 1775, a title it retained under both Spanish and Mexican rule.  The Mexican government built the Custom House, which is the oldest government building in California and California's first State Historical Landmark.

In 1849 as the push for statehood led to a state constitution being drafted in Colton Hall.  When California became a state in 1850, however, San Jose was chosen as the seat of California government.

Pacific House Museum
Monterey Historic Park is comprised of a number of buildings including the Custom House and Pacific House Museum near the Marina as well as a number of Adobes and other buildings spread through the surrounding blocks.

There is a days worth of museums and gardens to be seen.

No Man is an Island

'No Man is an Island'

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Olde English Version
No man is an Iland, intire of itselfe; every man
is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine;
if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe
is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as
well as if a Manor of thy friends or of thine
owne were; any mans death diminishes me,
because I am involved in Mankinde;
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.

NP - Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon in May can be REALLY cold.  Andi can attest to that.  It snowed and our tent collapsed with her inside.  Not her first trapped in a tent adventure!!

The views here are stunning!

The Hungry Caterpillar

 Shopping in Covid for quilt materials led me to some fun new stores.  One had a large collection of Hungry Caterpillar materials which inspired two baby quilts.  The first I've given to the new baby next door.  The one for a little boy is waiting for a home.

CSB - Natural Bridges and Monarch Butterfly Nature Preserve

Natural Bridges was my go to reflection site during the time I was at UC Santa Cruz.  The ensuing years have added a bit more structure no more sitting on the rocks!

Made by Alexis

 Alexis designed this quilt and mainly pieced it together, with just a little help on the awkward parts.  It was quilted by Grammy for her!

SMCP - San Pedro Valley

A visit to Sanchez Adobe brought me close to another park I hadn't visited.  It turned out to have some lovely trails.
